Anita Borg's influence on Women in Technology

Systers (1987)

Founded by Borg in 1987 alongside 12 fellow female technologists, Systers is an online community which provides a safe space for women technologists to discuss issues they experience in the workplace and to share resources. At present Systers is the world’s largest email community of women within the technology sector and continues to welcome more women of all ages and at any stage of their studies or careers.

Grace Hopper Celebration (1994)

Inspired by the legacy of Grace Hopper, Borg co-founded the Grace Hopper Celebration in 1994. The celebration is held each year and brings together the world’s largest gathering of female technologists to celebrate the contributions of women to computing. The event is an excellent chance for female technologists to improve their technical skills and to connect with others in the sector.

Institute for Women and Technology

Borg eventually went on to combine Systers and the Grace Hopper Celebration creating the Institute for Women and Technology which offers various programs for companies and individuals to use to address the technology gender gap.
