Nick Heath: My Client Server StoryPosted almost 4 years ago by Client Server

After graduating from Cardiff University, I didn’t know what I wanted. But the one thing I did know was that I wanted to work in a fast-pace environment. Funnily enough, I was on my way to a rugby match with my friend who got a call from Client Server about a job he applied for. After eavesdropping on the conversation, I thought the role sounded quite interesting. So I got in contact with Owen and he explained what the job entailed, reinforcing that it’s sales and target driven, which was good for me as I’m a competitive person.

Unfortunately for my friend, he didn’t get the job, but I did. I started on the graduate scheme with four others. I was placed in the Application and Infrastructure Support team, where I progressed from a trainee to a senior consultant in three years. I learned that the harder you worked, the more rewards you would get back, which led me to be the top biller in 2015 with a revenue of £300,000 – which is still yet to be beaten!

My next goal was to lead a team, and although there wasn’t an opportunity for me to become the team lead for Application and Infrastructure Support, there was an opening for the C++ team , so I was given the opportunity to prove myself.

I grew the C++ team and began to lead the Open Source and Mobile teams as well. I loved watching people progress – If someone wants to develop, I will do everything I can to help them achieve that. William Brock is a great example – he started as a trainee like myself and progressed into a principal consultant in two years. I take great pride in aiding him with his success.

Which brings me to September 2019, I signed a new contract – a marriage certificate – and decided to take a six-month sabbatical to travel around South America. I praise Client Server’s flexibility to let me do it. Weirdly, I always knew I was always going to come back to Client Server. I’ve been here for seven years and I’ve fully invested myself in the company.

Don’t get me wrong, this job has its ups and downs. But you can’t beat a regular adrenaline buzz from a good candidate or their CV, which makes this job so interesting. As recruitment goes, we work with the best companies and the highest quality of candidates, so we must be doing something right.

I’m now managing the Europe desk , which I’m really excited about. I get to build our European offering to match our London offering. It might take a few years, but we have the resources and we certainly have the determination to expand the business. We are a team of four highly-experienced recruiters in all technological fields who can speak up to five different languages collectively. So, if you’re a client with a satellite office in Europe, give us a call as I’m confident that we can find the right person in a short space of time.
