Head of Engineering Remote UK to £135k

A rapidly expanding UK FinTech lender is looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead its technology function through its next phase of growth.

Founded in 2018, the business offers flexible, long-term mortgage and home equity loans (up to 40 years) and is bridging the gap between traditional banking and cutting-edge FinTech innovation. Following new funding and the acquisition of a UK-based digital finance platform, the company is scaling fast and looking for a strong engineering leader ready to progress into a CTO-level role.

Your Role:

As Head of Engineering you'll have a high-impact, strategic leadership position with hands-on technical involvement. You'll set the engineering vision, build scalable systems and guide a growing team through an exciting transformation phase.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the engineering function, setting standards across architecture, data and delivery
• Managing and mentoring three direct reports: Head of Data, Technical Architect and Engineering Lead
• Owning system design and architecture with around 30 to 40% hands-on coding and technical design
• Driving innovation across greenfield projects, including architecture and data ingestion engine development
• Collaborating closely with business stakeholders to align technology with commercial goals
• Fostering a culture of quality, accountability and continuous improvement

Location / WFH:

There's a remote first policy, you must be based in the UK, ideally within reach of London, with occasional travel to Newcastle.

About You:

• You have experience as a Head of Engineering or Senior Engineering Manager, ideally in a FinTech or banking environment
• You have experience of operating in SME / scale businesses with tight budgets and delivery timelines
• You're a skilled polyglot engineer with experience across Java, TypeScript and JavaScript (other backgrounds considered)
• You have a good understanding of finance systems, data pipelines and industry terminology
• You have strong leadership and communication skills and are able to make decisions quickly
• You have a strategic mindset with a willingness to stay hands-on and technically engaged
